About Cross-Country Moving

Moving out of state from Los Angeles doesn't have to mean handing your belongings to a broker and hoping. Gentlemen's Moving is a licensed interstate carrier — we pack, load, drive, and deliver with our own crews and trucks, so the same company that closes your door in LA opens it at the other end.

Interstate Movers You Can Trust

Crossing state lines requires federal operating authority — and plenty of companies advertising cross-country moves don’t hold it. They’re brokers. They sell you a move, then hand it to whoever’s cheapest, which is why your belongings get loaded by one crew, driven by a stranger, and unloaded by a third company you never spoke to.

We’re not that. Gentlemen’s Moving is a Los Angeles-based long-haul carrier with our own trucks, our own drivers, and our own crews — and long-distance relocation is our specialization, not a side service squeezed in between local jobs. One team loads in LA and unloads at your destination, with no transfers between vendors and no gap where nobody’s clearly responsible for your things.

That also means we control the schedule. Pickup dates, routing, and delivery timing are ours to arrange rather than something we’re waiting on a third party to confirm. Moving within the state instead? See our California destinations. Staying local? Our movers in Los Angeles handle apartments, homes, and offices across the city.

Cost, Estimates and Delivery Windows

Long-distance moves aren’t priced by the hour. An interstate quote is built on the weight or volume of your shipment and the distance to your destination, plus packing scope and access at both ends. We don’t quote a serious cross-country move off a two-minute phone call — a real estimate needs a real inventory, so we review your list before giving you a number.

Interstate moving is federally regulated, and that protects you. Your estimate has to be in writing and has to state whether it’s binding or non-binding. A binding estimate locks in the price for the listed inventory and services. A non-binding estimate is an approximation — and under FMCSA rules a mover generally can’t require more than 110% of it at delivery, with any balance billed later. Before booking any interstate mover, it’s worth checking their authority through the FMCSA’s Protect Your Move program. Ours: US DOT 2399435, MC 825232.

Unlike a local move that’s picked up and delivered the same day, a cross-country move runs on a delivery window — its length depends on distance, route, shipment size, and the service level you pick:

  • Hot-shot — fastest and most premium; drivers run straight through, including overnight
  • Straight delivery — a dedicated truck and driver go directly to your destination
  • Standard delivery — the most economical option when you’re not in a rush
  • Storage in transit — we pick up, store, and deliver when you’re ready to receive

Some routes we run often enough that they’re routine: Los Angeles to Las Vegas or Phoenix can be done within two days.

Our Fleet and What's Included

We move you in our own trucks — no rentals. The fleet runs from 16′ and 18′ vans for narrow city streets and hillside pickups with tight parking, through 20′, 24′, and 26′ trucks for moves up to around 1,000 miles, to 45′ and 53′ trailers for full coast-to-coast runs. Every truck is inspected on a 90-day cycle and again before each departure, with repairs handled on the spot by a mobile mechanic. GPS on every vehicle means we can tell you where your shipment is rather than guessing.

A cross-country move with us isn’t just transport. Furniture disassembly and reassembly, careful handling of pianos, antiques, and fragile items, professional packing, loading and unloading, and furniture placement at your destination are all part of the service — including unloading and setup at the other end, so there’s no second crew to hire when you arrive. Shuttle service is included in the price, and a coordinator supervises the whole process.

Need everything boxed before pickup? Add our packing service. New place not ready when the truck arrives? Storage in transit holds everything until you are, and long-term storage covers longer gaps. Only need help on one end? Our labor-only crews work by the hour. And anything you’re not taking can go through junk removal — cheaper than shipping it across the country and deciding later.

Cross-Country Moving — Questions We Get

By the weight or volume of your shipment and the distance to your destination, plus add-ons like packing or storage — not hourly. You get a written estimate after we review your inventory.

A carrier. We hold our own federal operating authority (US DOT 2399435, MC 825232) and run the route with our own trucks and drivers. Nobody else touches your shipment along the way.

It depends on distance, route, shipment size, and the delivery option you choose. Neighboring states are quick; coast-to-coast needs more flexibility. Your window is confirmed before the move.

A binding estimate fixes the price for the inventory and services listed. A non-binding one is an approximation, and federal rules limit what can be collected at delivery relative to it. We’ll tell you which yours is.

All 48 continental states. Popular routes from LA include Las Vegas, Phoenix, Dallas, Seattle, and San Francisco.

No. Our crew unloads, places furniture, and reassembles what we took apart. That’s the point of using a carrier rather than a broker.

Yes. Storage in transit holds your shipment and delivers when you’re ready; long-term storage covers longer gaps.

Two to four weeks for an interstate move. Peak season (May–September) and month-end dates fill up first.
