120 miles down the I-5, handled door to door by our own crews and fleet — flat upfront pricing, no brokers, no subcontractors.
The LA-to-San Diego move is one of the most common relocations in California — and the shortest of the long-distance routes, at about 120 miles straight down the I-5. At that distance it’s priced and planned as a long-distance move, not billed by the hour like a crosstown job, even though San Diego is an easy drive south. Gentlemen’s Moving handles the whole thing with our own crews and trucks: we load in LA, drive south, and unload in San Diego. The crew that loads you in LA is the crew that unloads you in San Diego.
Storage in transit option. We will keep your belongings safe while your new home is getting ready for you
26/45/53 foot commercial grade trucks. Will fit all of your belongings
Delivering to 48 States by our own fleet. (No middle man or subcontractors involved)

See what your move could cost
The drive is about 120 miles down the I-5, roughly 2 to 3 hours without heavy traffic — short enough that a dedicated truck can often load and deliver without a long wait. Because it’s still a long-distance move rather than a same-day local one, delivery runs on a short window rather than a fixed hour, and we confirm your timing before the move so you can plan the San Diego end around it. The short distance is also why this route tends to be one of the more affordable long-distance moves out of LA.

A to Z Packing
Unlike a local move billed by the hour, this route is quoted on the volume or weight of your shipment and the services you need — packing, specialty items, and access at both ends. Home size is the biggest driver: a studio is a very different job from a four-bedroom house.
We don’t quote it off a two-minute call — a real number needs a real inventory, so we review what’s actually moving and give you a flat, upfront price, with nothing added at delivery that wasn’t in the quote. Because the distance is short, this is one of the more economical routes we run. The simplest way to lower the cost further is to pack yourself instead of adding full packing. For general pricing, see our rates page.
The LA pickup is usually the simple part. San Diego is where the access needs more thought, and we plan for it ahead of time. Downtown — the Gaslamp, Little Italy, East Village — is dense high-rise living, where buildings require reserved freight elevators, a certificate of insurance, and set move-in windows. The coastal neighborhoods like La Jolla, Pacific Beach, and Coronado bring narrow streets, tight parking, and hillside access where a full-size truck can’t always get close. The canyon and mesa neighborhoods have their own grades and turns.
We confirm the destination’s access before the move: where the truck can park, whether the building needs paperwork, and what the carry looks like. Give us your San Diego neighborhood and building at booking and we plan the approach around it.
Upfront pricing, licensed crews, your own team start to finish
An LA-to-San Diego move covers the whole job: furniture disassembly and reassembly, wrapping and padding, loading, transport, and placement room by room at the San Diego end. Pianos, antiques, and fragile pieces are handled by crews trained for them.
Add packing — full or partial — if you’d rather not box things yourself. If your San Diego place isn’t ready when the truck arrives, storage in transit holds your shipment until it is. Only need help loading? Our labor-only crews work by the hour, and junk removal clears what you’re not taking — cheaper than moving it 120 miles.

The drive is about 120 miles, 2–3 hours down the I-5. For a dedicated truck, delivery is typically quick given the short distance. We confirm your window before the move.
It depends on how much you’re moving and what services you need, not on an hourly rate. Home size is the main factor, and because the distance is short, it’s one of the more affordable long-distance routes from LA. You get a flat, upfront price after we review your inventory.
It’s within California but about 120 miles, so it’s planned and priced as a long-distance move rather than an hourly local one, even though the drive itself is short.
